Lynn & Bang Before

Lynn: I have been struggling with my weight my entire life and I had to come to the point where I felt as if I was losing the battle. Every diet had failed and I would lose weight only to gain back what I lost and more. When I stepped on the scale right before my 50th birthday, the number staring back at me with the heaviest I have ever been. I felt scared and helpless. My husband and I both needed to get healthy. We had thought about weight-loss surgery before, but never really pursued finding out any options. But a few days after my scale of revelation, I was reading the paper and saw an article about the doctor and her patients’ success with weight loss surgery.

That doctor was Dr. Misra. And that article was the first step in getting control of our lives. We made an appointment to find out more about what was available. Meeting Dr. Misra was unlike anything I expected. Most doctors make me feel ashamed about my weight. She made me feel like there was hope and then finally I could, in fact, be a healthy weight. I was so afraid of failing and I remember her saying that I wouldn’t because she would be there every step of the way. I really believe that she wants me to be healthy as much as I do!

Bang: I was the heaviest I have ever been and it was really starting to cause medical issues for me, although at the time I was just starting to become aware of the problems. I had dieted with little success and had talked with Lynn about weightloss surgery an option for us. When she made the appointment for the consultation, we decided to do it together so we can make a lifestyle change for both of us. Dr. Misra told us our options and we decided on the gastric sleeve.

Lynn: we did a lot of research before initial consult. I was scared of surgery and quite honestly I was afraid of losing the weight in regaining it. But after meeting the staff and going to the consultation, I knew we were in the right place. They explained everything and answered all your questions. We were not on this journey alone anymore, I feel like we have a whole team of Beverly Hills physicians supporting us. I would, and do, highly recommend Beverly Hills physicians.

Bang: They gave us a lot of information about what to expect before and after surgery. My wife and I both felt comfortable with how are aftercare would be. It was important to us that once we had the surgery we still had checkups with our doctor and any questions answered.

Lynn: When you start this process is hard to imagine the changes will go through emotionally and physically. The surgery helps you get your weight under control, but it will change you in ways you cannot believe. The first time I went shopping and bought a regular size I sat in the dressing room and cried. I am actively living my life now, doing things I used to just think about. All of my major issues are gone and I’m off all my medications. I eat to live now, as corny as that sounds, not live to eat.

Bang: I was surprised at how quickly my medical issues starting to get better after surgery. I put your levels might let pressure were both highly elevated and both issues are now gone. My eyes had retinal bleeding that has stopped and healed as well. I have more energy my sleep apnea is completely gone.

Lynn: I’m looking forward to living each day because I’ve given this chance to be healthy and all the tools I need to make it happen. When you are overweight it’s hard to think about your future because deep inside you know health issues are going to arise. Heart disease and high blood pressure runs in my family, so I know I needed to lose the weight and keep it off once and for all.

I just want to say that for anyone thinking about weight-loss surgery, take the time to get educated so that you know what is good to happen and what you can expect, and most important he was expected of you. It is not “taking the easy way out” to decide to have weight-loss surgery. You are getting a tool to help you reach your goals. Don’t be afraid to succeed. My only regret is I didn’t do it sooner.
